Since opening in 1962, the Alice Pauli Gallery has pursued two aims. It has relentlessly demonstrated its commitment to a significant artistic heritage, while never abandoning its mission to discover new talent and guarantee its promotion in Switzerland and beyond its borders. This effort to disseminate art works has taken place principally at international fairs: with our participation at ART/BASEL since 1971, as well as at FIAC and, in the 1980s and 1990s, at Chicago and Brussels. We regularly collaborate with Swiss and international museums, as well as cultural institutions. The gallery established its identity in the 1960s with artists who were rarely or never exhibited in Switzerland at the time: Sam Francis, Julius Bissier, Roger Bissière, Jean Dubuffet, Alicia Penalba, Emil Schumacher, Louis Soutter, Arpad Szenes, Tapiès, Mark Tobey, Vieira da Silva, etc… From 1961 to 1985, the gallery invested considerably in textile art and staged numerous exhibitions of works by the most important artists in this discipline: Abakanowicz, Buic, Sheila Hicks, Mariette Rousseau Vermette, among others. For the gallery, these artists represent points of reference that were later complemented by the addition of Pierre Soulages – Giuseppe Penone – Anne and Patrick Poirier – Plensa – Rebecca Horn – Paladino – Jim Dine – Nevelson – James Brown – Philippe Cognée – Stéphane Guiran – Loïc Le Groumellec – Christian Lapie – Nunzio - Fabienne Verdier and others. On account of its geographical location, the gallery has always sought to surround itself with Swiss artists – painters and sculptors – as well as young international artists.
